Support in Public and Social Environments

Every day, a mother's interest and efforts to breastfeed are influenced by public perception, culture, social norms, policies, and physical environments. From supporting breastfeeding in a restaurant to developing a community-based support program, you can give mothers the support they need.

For example:

  • Develop and implement policies to promote and support breastfeeding in public spaces.
  • Promote education that targets a mother's support network (fathers and grandmothers).
  • Ensure around-the-clock access to resources that provide assistance with breastfeeding.
  • Support or develop a breastfeeding coalition in your community.
  • Create a local targeted breastfeeding campaign to reach women and families
